Family Fun Night at First United Methodist Church

It's not everyday your pastor shows up at church looking like this.
Underneath that suit and tie is a wet suit. Why, you ask? There was this youth fund raiser we had at church and during the planning of this fundraiser, someone came up with the wonderful idea to get a dunking booth. Wanta guess who was nominated to sit in that dunking booth?
You got it, Bro. RB Moore. At this point he was pretty sure his "magic walking on water" shoes was going to help him from getting wet. As you can see though, he was ready to get wet just in case they failed him. Karen Lee gave him the floaties during church that morning to help him out.The Glory Gals were there to keep us entertained during the entire time. I have to tell you, it was really hot that day and they were standing right in the bright sun but that didn't stop them from doing a great job. If you haven't heard them sing and are from this area you should go hear them and if you aren't from this area, there are some videos on youtube you should check out. That's my sister-in-law, Melissa on the left, Ms. Pat in the middle, and Lori, one of my un-biological brother's wife, on the right.
Bro. RB is taking his post, still hoping those shoes would work.It looks like he is still dry but he is watching that target pretty close.
Alysia is trying really hard to hit the target. The boys are just waiting their turn.
Still dry after several kids tried their luck.
Kaitlyn is up next. Can she be the first to dunk him?
She did it!! Down he goes. Wait, should he be standing on the water? After all, he has on "magic walking on water" shoes. Ummm, I hope he can get a refund.
Oh, that one was close.
The youth from the church were there helping the kids play the games.
The giant slide is always a hit. Amanda and Maddie are going next.
Maddie loved the slide.
Look at that face, absolutely precious!!
Lollie and Pop were waiting to get a picture of little Maddie-Moo coming down the slide.
The little kids were having a blast.
Mr. Wayne paid for a push, yep, a push. He didn't even bother to throw a softball and hit the target, he just went up and pushed.
Ms. Ophelia got in on that action. She even got splashed as he went in.
More slide fun!!
It's Shea's turn.
And down she goes!
Hang on, that is not RB. I guess after Bro. RB got dunked so many times, Clinton decided to take over. Clinton and Colton help April out in the youth department so it was only fair for them to get a turn.
Everyone was having a really good time.
Someone hit the target, down goes Clinton. I can't tell if he was trying to dive or praying.
Of course, I had to get a picture of some of my very favorite people. Frank and Jane, Sylvia's parents, Maddie, Amanda, and Sylvia.
And these two pretty ladies, Jennifer and Amy.
Colton was in the dunking booth now and Maddie decided she wanted to get a closer look at what he was doing.
"Look, Pop, see what I have"
She found the water puddles behind the booth so she played for a while.
Ms. April, is that you getting in that dunking booth? I thought you didn't want to do that. Oh yea, that is what you said. But wait, you told me you would do it if we get $100 donated to the youth. Oh yea, we got $151 donated and you are a woman of your word. It was amazing how generous the people were when I told them "April says she will get in the dunking booth if I can collect $100".
April did have a few instructions and rules she had to explain before anyone got to throw the ball.
April, maybe you should have borrowed RB's shoes. Never mind, I bet he was on his way to the post office to return those defective shoes.
This is the face of a good sport. Even though she wasn't crazy about the idea of getting all wet, she didn't hesitate to do what she said she would do if it meant raising money for the youth program. And by the way, she is only sticking her tongue out at me because she loves me!!
After all was said and done, there was over $1000 raised for the youth program at First United Methodist Church that evening! You did a great job putting this together, April!!

Love to all,
Charlene

Some advantages to working in Shreveport...

One advantage - Lunch at the State Fair of Louisiana.

This is one of the exhibits at the fair. I wonder if I could get Grant to bring home a couple of big round bails of hay and so I could decorate my yard.Candice wanted to go in the little shack.Me, Candice, and Michelle are waiting on Karen. She had to go buy a fried snickers bar for Logan. Ahh, there's Karen, admiring the pretty flowers. Ooopps, sorry Karen, I forgot you wanted me to tell everyone this was your backyard. But, in my defense, I think the BBQ stand in the background is a dead give-away that this isn't your backyard.
Michelle had to have a turkey leg before we left. After all, what's a trip to the fair without a turkey leg? Candice is ready for her turkey leg.If not a turkey leg, then there has to be a funnel cake!! Josh had to get something sweet.Karen has a turkey leg too. That is my McAllister's tea glass right there with the straw. A corndog and a big ol' glass of sweet tea was my state fair choices (oh yea, and a polish sausage).

Another advantage - lunch at the Red River Revel

We all piled in Karen's vehicle and headed down to Festival Plaza for revel food. If you have never been to the Revel, oh my, you just don't know what you're missing. The only problem Candice and I had was choosing from all the different kinds of food we wanted. We decided on a piece of muffaletta pizza each and then...
we shared this huge order of nachos. We agreed we made an excellent choice. This is the crew that went, Candice, Jim, Scott, Josh, Rick, Karen and Logan. I'm not sure where Dale was at the time, probably getting some food. This is what was left of Josh's funnel cake. (Do you see a pattern here with Josh and his funnel cakes?)Chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick for the ride back to the lab! We should have walked!

And the biggest advantage to working in Shreveport...working with all those people in the pictures above and a few that didn't get in the pictures. It's great working with people you consider family!!
