It was 20 years ago today I became Mrs. Grant Kimbell Killgore. I had to wait a lot of years for that day. Our first date was in April of 1981. And for the record, I asked him out on our first date. We went to the FBLA Banquet at Homer High School. (and for the other record, he asked me out the second time).
He gave me my engagement ring on my birthday in 1988. I think everyone in town knew I was getting it but me. I was certainly wanting an engagement ring. He bought the ring (he picked it out all by himself) the day Nicole was born and stopped by the hospital to show Kim. I didn't know all these people could keep a secret that well.
Here's the newspaper announcement.
Although Daddy never told me personally, he told Mama, more than once, he did not want to wear a tux. I think she basically told him he didn't have much of a choice. HAHA, I wonder how many times, before or after, she told him that, probable not often. Let me tell you a funny story Mama told me about the day they went for him to be fitted for the tux. Remember now that I told you he didn't want to wear the thing anyway. After they got to Shreveport, they had a flat on the car, not a good thing even when your not doing something you don't want to. He pulls into a filling station parking lot and instead of letting them change the tire he decided he would do it himself, again not a good thing. So, about the time he bent down to change the tire the water sprinklers came on and soaked him down. Then, my daddy (being the cool, claim soul that he was) began to stomp the water sprinkler head until he broke it off in the ground. I can honestly say I never remember Daddy telling me that story. I think maybe that's because he never found it quite as funny as the rest of us did. Here he is in the tux (he really didn't want to wear) walking me down the isle. Possible one of the few times he ever did anything he absolutely did not want to. I think he looked very handsome all dressed up.
Because I grew up in the Baptist church and Grant grew up in the Methodist church, we were married in the First Baptist Church in Homer and Rev. C. W. Quaid, retired Methodist minister, performed the ceremony. The ceremony was almost perfect. Bro. Quaid forgot to tell Grant he could kiss his bride. We just kept looking at each other wondering if we should just kiss and when he announced us husband and wife, we just walked down the isle. When we got to the back of the church, the photographer said "Kiss your Bride" and he got a picture.
Our wedding party; Jimmy, Keith, Walt, Jeff, Dennis, Scott, Melissa, Sid, Bro. Quaid, Randy, friend Sylvia, Kim, me, Grant, cousin Sylvia, John David, Christin, Jason, Jennifer, and Mary Kate. My mama made my wedding dress, the bridesmaids dresses and the flower girls dresses.
This is my Mamaw Lura, my mom's mother.
And here is Grant's mom's mother, his Nana.
For some reason, we didn't get a picture with Grant's dad's parents, Maw and Paw. I really wish we would have though.Ready to cut the cake. I loved the wedding cake, I thought it was so pretty, just like I wanted. I never got to see the groom's cake, never even saw a picture.
My poor little car. But as you can tell by this picture, I have evidence, I know who did it. I see Shonda, Christin, Wayne (standing back, trying to look all innocent) and I do believe that would be Keith and Melissa at the rear of the car. When we came out of the church, some of the guys held Grant down and poured a whole bag of rice down the back of his pants. Needless to say, he was a bit uncomfortable on the ride to our house.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant Killgore.
Here is another couple that will be celebrating 20 years in a few months, friend Sylvia and Jon. Amanda looked so precious.
And my favorite Arkansas family. Chip, cousin Sylvia holding Jessica, my sweet Uncle Franklin, my beautiful Aunt Irene and Ann.
Another wedding post, only this time it was back in the day of big glasses and big hair.

OK, so now I have to convince him that just because the law allows him to stay out after 11pm now, doesn't mean Mom has to allow it.
Little Anna came to visit Melissa while her mama got a MUCH deserved break to do some of those thing mamas can't do (or can't do easily) with a new baby. Just look what a pretty baby she is.
Melissa brought her down to visit us. Kim was the first to hold her.
Kim A. is relaxing on her raft.
No, Wilson wasn't there, this is Perry. I think he may have been dosing off.
Garrett and Grant were getting Jake ready for the knee board.
Kimmie and Connie soaking up the sun.
Believe me, this was not the only time Charlie had to put gas in the jet ski.
Melissa putting on her sunscreen.
Shea's friend, Sydney, Shea, Nicole and Jake stop long enough for a picture. For whatever reason, Shea feels the need to give everybody bunny ears when she has her picture made.
Sydney's brother, Patrick and her dad, Tommy went along for the boat road.
Sydney and Shea had fun riding in the tube.
Patrick ready to play in the water.
The boys slept in a tent at night so Zach and Jake were looking for a cool place to finish out their nap.
Keith and Melissa went to her aunt's 80th birthday party Saturday so they let us take the barge out. This is Kim and Perry enjoying the ride.
Shea was chillin' and soakin' up the sun.
While some of us were in the barge, Connie and Tyler were riding the tube behind the ski boat.
Nicole making hamburgers.
Here's part of the group. Cameron, Kacie, Jake and Ethan. They were probable in there begging for food or something. Look at Jake, he thought if he smiled big for the camera, I would let him have some grapes.
Jimmy and Connie relaxing.
Jimmy and Suzanne brought Sydney out to see the fireworks. Shea finally convinced Sydney to get in the water. I don't think Syd is real crazy about the lake water.
Jake playing in the water.
Keith took his barge out to see the fireworks. He had a full load of people, all of his bunch, Mamaw Mary, Sue, Kim and Ken, Kim and Perry, Tammy, Randy and Donna and probable a few more.
Got a good picture of Randy and Donna waiting to go out.
Sydney remembered sitting in Nicole's lap last year during the fireworks and that's where she wanted to be this year.
Connie and Charlie riding out to the middle of the lake.
Sydney, Shea and Tyler enjoying the fireworks.
Some pictures of the fireworks. Not the best shots but I think you get the idea.

It was a long, tiring weekend, for dog and man.
